Enlarged Details

I have spent time with ballet companies, rehearsals, and working stage rehearsals for ballet performances, drawing throughout. These sessions have given me a great deal of experience and inspiration. What I love most is the unpredictability. Drawing during a full rehearsal, which runs exactly like a normal performance and can last up to three hours. I don’t look at what I’m doing as I draw; I simply let my hand move across the paper in response to the music, movement, and atmosphere. I return home with a large folder of drawings, often in graphite, and never look at them until the following morning. Then, early in the day, I open the folder and know immediately how to finish each one. I will often spend the next two days working on them, refining details and developing the pieces that will later become paintings.
