Objects collected after a fierce storm on Hurst shingle bank, when I went walking and found the most amazing small treasures. During a difficult period, when my husband was ill in hospital. I went for a long walk with my younger son, and together we collected these pieces. I grouped them into pleasing combinations and painted them as simple panels in acrylic. I still have that collection of discovered treasures today. When I have people working in the studio, I often bring it out. It’s remarkable what we can arrange on coloured paper backgrounds.

I have always collected small bits and pieces, they are a constant source of inspiration, particularly after working on something very intense. Having them in front of me is grounding, a reminder of another time. Working with them is both relaxing and deeply enjoyable.
